Key Words

Parents of students in lower school may be interested to see the attached list of key words, which all students should be able to write and spell correctly. Students can check their own ability by testing themselves and recording their result under the R and Sp columns (read and spell), for example with a tick for okay and a dot for ‘I need to work on it’.

To learn spellings, it is suggested that students use the ‘look, say, cover, write, check’ method that they already know from primary school.

These words apparently make up 65% of all the words we read and use, so they are worth knowing!

Cooking for The Queen

 Eight Year 10 and 11 students from Wood Green School and Springfield Special School have joined together in a Cookery competition (www.lovebritishfood.co.uk) to prepare a special menu for Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Discounts on Educational Books

In recent years the School has benefited from being able to purchase educational books/revision guides for student use at heavily discounted prices from certain suppliers, in some cases saving as much as 50% of the retail price in most subject areas.  It has been possible through existing parent connections with suppliers who are able to offer this invaluable provision to their employees.  As individual students leave the School this provision finishes so we would like to make a request to any parent who considers they are in a situation where discounts may be available to contact the School.  Any saving, however small, would enable us to redirect available funds to other essential learning resources for all students. 

Please contact either the School Office or the Finance Department directly on 01993 899529 if you are able to help.  The Finance Team would be able to make enquiries on your behalf if unsure and all correspondence would remain confidential.

Eco-Schools Project

Donations please!

 

The Eco-schools project is intending to build a greenhouse out of plastic bottles. We are therefore asking for donations of clean, clear plastic bottles, especially 2 litre sizes. However, all sizes are welcomed.

 

The collection point is outside the Restaurant and will be clearly marked.

Sainsbury and Tesco Vouchers

We are collecting Sainsbury and Tesco vouchers again this year. Please send any vouchers into school as soon as  possible. They will all be used for new sport, Food Technology and Basic Skills resources.

Music & Cultural Exchange - Cancelled

Dear Parents/Carers

Thank you to all who responded to our request for accommodation to host students from St. Andrew’s Scots School in Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, they will not be visiting Wood Green School and therefore we will not need your offered accommodation.
